Maserati Quattroporte Hybrid in the Works: Maserati is reportedly gearing up for a bold pivot in its powertrain strategy, with a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version of the iconic Quattroporte firmly on the table. This move comes as the Italian marque seeks to bridge the gap between its existing internal combustion (ICE) and electric (BEV) offerings — and preserve one of its most legendary nameplates in the process.
Why a Hybrid Quattroporte Now?
CEO Santo Ficili confirmed that Maserati is actively listening to customer feedback in a rapidly shifting market. With growing uncertainty among buyers about BEV, PHEV, and MHEV technologies, the brand aims to provide “all the possibilities of propulsion” — a portfolio that would, for the first time, include plug-in hybrids.
What Will Power the Hybrid Quattroporte?
Though current Maserati platforms aren’t PHEV-ready, a key collaboration with sibling brand Alfa Romeo under the Stellantis umbrella opens exciting possibilities. Alfa’s upcoming STLA Large platform — capable of supporting ICE, EV, and PHEV — will underpin the next-gen Giulia and Stelvio.
This modular architecture could now be shared with Maserati, giving birth to:
- A new Quattroporte PHEV, combining performance with improved efficiency
- A possible Levante hybrid SUV, derived from the future Stelvio
- Greater component and development synergies between the two brands

The Strategy: Preserve DNA, Expand Options
Maserati currently offers:
- Twin-turbo V6 engines (e.g., MC20, Grecale Trofeo)
- Mild-hybrid 2.0L turbo-fours (in models like Ghibli and Grecale GT)
- Pure-electric drivetrains (like in the upcoming GranTurismo Folgore)
Adding PHEVs would not only plug the gap between mild hybrids and full EVs, but also appeal to traditional luxury buyers hesitant to go fully electric — without sacrificing the brand’s signature driving dynamics.
What to Expect from a Quattroporte PHEV?
If Maserati adopts the STLA Large platform, a hybrid Quattroporte could feature:
A New Era, Rooted in Italian Craftsmanship
The move is not just about emissions compliance — it’s about keeping Maserati relevant in an evolving premium landscape. By leveraging Stellantis platforms while infusing its design DNA and performance ethos, Maserati ensures that models like the Quattroporte stay aspirational and future-ready.

When Will We See It?
No official timelines yet, but with Alfa’s STLA-based models expected soon, a next-gen Quattroporte hybrid could debut as early as 2026, likely alongside a revamped Levante and possibly a GranTurismo PHEV variant.
